Role Overview

The Legal & Compliance Counsel position at Cardinal Health Japan is a pivotal role supporting our commercial division and manufacturing site. Reporting to the Head of Legal & Compliance Japan, you'll provide proactive legal guidance, manage compliance programs, oversee contracts, and advise stakeholders on regulatory matters. Key Responsibilities

Your day-to-day will involve high-impact tasks blending legal expertise with business acumen:

• Deliver proactive legal and compliance solutions for the medical device business, including drafting and negotiating distribution agreements, customer contracts, and vendor deals.
• Monitor regulatory trends in healthcare, preparing the company for emerging opportunities and risks.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with HR, finance, R&D, quality, marketing, sales, and IT to resolve issues and weigh in on strategies.
• Coordinate external counsel projects within budget and partner with the corporate IP team for protection strategies.
• Review promotional materials for compliance and lead global projects as needed.
• Implement controls for internal policies, conduct training, risk assessments, and third-party due diligence.
• Support investigations, compliance committees, and ethical interactions with healthcare professionals (HCPs).

Qualifications & Requirements

To succeed, you must bring:

• At least 8-12 years of post-qualification experience (PQE) in a law firm or in-house legal role.
• A legal degree or equivalent, plus a practicing certificate (Japanese or foreign qualification accepted).
• Native-level Japanese and business-level English proficiency.
• Deep knowledge of Japanese laws, including antimonopoly, company law, and healthcare-specific regulations.

Preferred candidates have experience in the medical device or pharmaceutical industry. Excellent communication, leadership, judgment, and escalation skills are essential, along with a commitment to high ethical standards and business engagement.
