Join Leidos as an Aerospace M&S Engineer Intern

Leidos is seeking a motivated Aerospace M&S Engineer Intern for summer placement in our Huntsville, AL Flight Systems Department within the Missiles & Aviation Division. Dive into real-world challenges solving complex technical problems in missiles, space systems, hypersonics, acquisition systems, fixed & rotary wing aircraft, and more. Work alongside expert engineers on a technical project involving modeling & simulation for an innovative aerospace vehicle designed by Leidos-Dynetics.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain high-fidelity simulations evaluating performance and flight dynamics of aerospace vehicles.
  • Build 6-DOF, 3-DOF, and hardware-in-the-loop (HWIL) simulations integrating aerodynamic & propulsion models, GNC algorithms, and advanced features for domestic/foreign missile systems and flight vehicles.
  • Perform detailed analysis of vehicle dynamics, execute design trade-studies, support mission planning, and prepare for live flight tests.
  • Deliver precise assessments informing DoD policymakers, acquisition programs, and warfighters.
  • Create scripts, GUIs, and utilities to streamline analysis and programmatic efforts.

Basic Qualifications

  • Fundamental knowledge of aerospace engineering: flight dynamics, simulation, orbital mechanics, GNC.
  • Programming proficiency in Matlab/Simulink, C/C++, Python or similar.
  • Excellent technical communication; ability to work independently and in teams.
  • North Alabama resident or willing to relocate onsite to Huntsville, AL.
  • Current student (Junior+) pursuing Bachelor's/Graduate degree in Aerospace/Mechanical Engineering, Physics or related from ABET-accredited institution; 3.0+ GPA.
  • US Citizen able to obtain DoD Secret clearance.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

  • Graduate studies in Aerospace/Mechanical Engineering.
  • DoD digital engineering familiarity; post-flight data analysis.
  • Advanced math: linear algebra, statistics, coordinate transformations.
  • Tools: Linux, HWIL/GPS simulators, Git, TAOS/OTIS, numerical optimization, Simulink code-gen, optimal estimation, sensor fusion (Kalman/Particle Filters), GPS-denied nav, GNC for munitions/UAS.
