Leidos Digital Modernization Sector is preparing for expanded missions supporting the Sixteenth Air Force Cyber Forces at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, TX. We seek expert Assessor Engineer Communications and Networking Protocols Specialists to deliver advanced technical expertise in communications protocols, network architectures, cybersecurity defense, and vulnerability assessment for DoD systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze protocols like TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF for vulnerabilities and countermeasures
  • Conduct research on emerging networking technologies
  • Advise on protocol weaknesses and mitigation strategies
  • Perform assessments on routers, switches, firewalls using Wireshark, Nmap, Nessus
  • Evaluate cyber incidents and support remediation
  • Develop recommendations to strengthen network security

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's in Cybersecurity/Computer Science + 4-12+ years experience
  • Active TS/SCI clearance
  • 3-5+ years network engineering/cybersecurity
  • DoD 8570 IAT-II certification (Security+, CySA+)
  • Expertise in networking protocols and security tools

Preferred Skills

  • DoD/Air Force cyber experience
  • RMF, Zero Trust, classified networks (SIPR/JWICS)
  • Advanced certs: CISSP, CCNP Security, CEH, GIAC

  • Strong understanding of communications and networking protocols (experience)
  • Proficiency with network security tools (experience)
  • Working knowledge of routing, switching, firewalls, and IDS/IPS (experience)
  • Strong documentation and analytical skills (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Review technical requirements and analyze communications and networking protocols for behavior, vulnerabilities, emerging advancements, and secure applications
  • Conduct in-depth research into networking technologies to enhance cybersecurity
  • Advise Cybersecurity and IA teams on protocol weaknesses, exploitation methods, and mitigation strategies
  • Perform vulnerability analysis and recommend countermeasures for protocol- and network-based threats
  • Conduct technical assessments on routers, switches, firewalls, and transport systems
  • Evaluate cyber incidents related to protocol misuse or intrusions and support remediation
  • Develop technical recommendations to enhance network security posture
  • Support integration of cybersecurity requirements into network engineering solutions
  • Maintain technical documentation for configurations, changes, test results, and risk assessments
