Make an Impact as an Associate Distribution Engineer at Leidos

Join Leidos, a top-ranked provider in power delivery services (ENR Top 10 T&D and Power Firms), and contribute to projects for over 50 investor-owned utilities and 160+ municipals/cooperatives nationwide. This entry-level role in our Carmel, IN office starts through a temp agency for 6 months before converting to full Leidos employment. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop comprehensive work packages for OH, UG, URD, Make Ready, and Street Light projects using GIS/WMS systems like GE Smallworld, Bentley Expert Designer, and Maximo.
  • Handle field and office tasks, including utility coordination, complex urban cable/conduit designs, work permits, easements, and ROW applications.
  • Design mainline vault MV switchgear, network systems, and perform protection/coordination studies.
  • Conduct electrical power calculations and interface with clients and disciplines like Substation, P&C, and Civil.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Reliable personal transportation; local travel reimbursed at IRS rates.

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • 6+ months in distribution engineering.
  • Cost estimation, BOM development, CIAC calculations.
  • Proficiency in Pole Foreman, SOCKET, Spida-Calc, and AutoCAD.
  • Familiarity with design standards.

Responsibilities

  • Develop work packages for overhead (OH), underground (UG), URD, Make Ready, and Street Light projects
  • Coordinate conflicting utilities and field engineering design requirements
  • Design complex cable/conduit projects in dense urban environments
  • Prepare work permits, easements, and ROW applications
  • Design mainline vault medium voltage switchgear and network systems
  • Perform electrical power calculations and distribution protection coordination
  • Interface with local clients and other disciplines including Substation, Protection & Controls, and Civil Structural
