Job Description

Join Leidos as an Associate Distribution Engineer in Irving, TX

Leidos is seeking dedicated Associate Distribution Engineers for electric utility design engineering in our Dallas/Irving office. Work directly with clients to deliver exceptional quality on every project, from simple overhead (OH) and underground (UG) distribution tasks to complex urban cable/conduit designs. Gain hands-on experience in NESC, structural pole modeling, power calculations, GIS design, project management, and client standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop work packages for OH, UG, URD, Make Ready, and Street Light projects using GIS/WMS systems like GE Smallworld, Bentley Expert Designer, and Maximo.
  • Perform field inspections, coordinate utilities, handle permitting, easements, and design medium voltage switchgear under supervision.
  • Execute engineering calculations for pole loading, guying, sags/tensions, voltage drop, and flicker.
  • Support construction with reviews, root cause outage analysis, and compliance to Leidos/Client safety standards.
  • Work a flexible 4/10 schedule with some travel and field work.

Required Background

  • BS in Engineering (Electrical/Mechanical/Civil/Industrial preferred) from ABET-accredited program.
  • MS Office proficiency; personal vehicle for travel; field/office adaptability.
  • Strong communication skills.

Preferred Experience

  • Distribution tools (BOUD, Pole Foreman, etc.), CAD/MicroStation/GIS, NESC, design standards.

Responsibilities

  • Develop design and construction work packages for OH/UG distribution systems (4kV-138kV)
  • Perform engineering calculations including structural pole loading, guying, conductor sags/tensions, voltage drop
  • Conduct site inspections, travel as needed, and engineering design in office
  • Develop permitting documents for AHJs and provide construction support/post-reviews
  • Conduct root cause analysis of outages and ensure compliance with safety/design standards
