Join Leidos as an Associate Distribution Engineer

Leidos is hiring Associate Distribution Engineers for electric utility design in Kalamazoo, MI. Deliver exceptional quality on every project, from simple overhead (OH) to complex underground (UG) systems, while collaborating directly with clients to uphold our reputation for excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop work packages for OH, UG, URD, Make Ready, and Street Light projects using GIS/WMS systems like GE Smallworld, Bentley Expert Designer, and Maximo.
  • Perform field inspections, engineering calculations (structural analysis, guying, sags/tensions, voltage drop/flicker), and design for 4kV-138kV systems.
  • Coordinate utilities, develop permits/easements, and support construction with post-reviews and root cause outage analysis.
  • Comply with Leidos, client safety, NESC, and quality standards.

Requirements

  • Required: BS in Engineering (ABET accredited), MS Office proficiency, personal vehicle for travel (reimbursed), field/office flexibility, strong communication.
  • Preferred: Experience with BOUD, Pole Foreman, SOCKET, Spida-Calc, CAD/MicroStation/GIS, NESC, design standards.

Responsibilities

  • Develop design and construction work packages for OH/UG distribution systems (4kV-138kV)
  • Perform engineering calculations including structural pole loading, guying, conductor sags/tensions, voltage drop
  • Conduct site inspections, travel as needed, and engineering design in office
  • Develop permitting documents for AHJs and provide construction support/post-reviews
  • Conduct root cause analysis of outages and ensure compliance with safety/design standards
