Job Description

Autonomous Systems Software Engineer

Build software for UUVs that navigate in the dark, think independently, and complete missions where failure is not an option. Leidos seeks a hands-on engineer for next-generation uncrewed underwater vehicles and maritime autonomy systems supporting critical national missions.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop mission-critical autonomy software using modern C++, Java, Python on Linux in contested environments
  • Break down complex requirements into executable, testable code
  • Architect modular, performant frameworks for multiple platforms
  • Ship features with accurate estimates from design to deployment
  • Contribute to technical debates, reviews, and trade studies
  • Mentor juniors and elevate team execution
  • Write meaningful tests, analyze failures, fix root causes
  • Integrate with systems/hardware/test engineers
  • Optimize Agile workflows and tools

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in CS/Software Engineering + 8-12 years or Master’s + 6-10 years
  • U.S. Secret clearance eligibility
  • Expert modern C++ on Linux (performance, memory, quality)
  • Systems design judgment under constraints
  • MBSE familiarity (Cameo/MagicDraw)
  • Docker/VMware experience
  • Agile tools (Jira, etc.)
  • Clear communication and professional integrity

Preferred Qualifications

  • Multi-language experience (C#, Rust, etc.)
  • Embedded/low-level systems
  • Autonomy/robotics hands-on
