Leidos operates the Federal Highway Administration’s (FHWA) Saxton Transportation Operations Laboratory (STOL), a USDOT R&D lab at Turner Fairbank Highway Research Center in McLean, VA. Shape the future of smart mobility through cutting-edge projects in vehicle/infrastructure connectivity, automation, everything-in-the-loop simulation, and AI/ML modeling. Advance USDOT goals in safety, mobility, sustainability, and equity.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead C++ development for ITS prototypes across vehicles, infrastructure, and cloud.
  • Drive open-source processes: triage issues, review contributions.
  • Refactor legacy systems into modular, scalable architectures.
  • Execute hands-on tests/demos at TFHRC and external sites.
  • Collaborate on project feasibility, task breakdown, estimation, and agile execution.
  • Engage customers/stakeholders throughout project lifecycles.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s (CS/Engineering) + 4+ years professional C++ OR Master’s + 2+ years C++.
  • CMake for C++ builds; Git; Docker (docker-compose).
  • Java/Python experience; Agile with JIRA/Confluence.
  • Software quality expertise (unit tests, TDD, CI/CD, static analysis).
  • Math: geometry, linear algebra, probability, graph/set theory, statistics.
  • US work authorization; 3/5 years US residency for Public Trust.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Extensive Linux C++ development; build/package systems.
  • Kafka/message brokers; ROS; UI/front-end.
  • Distributed/cloud computing; robotics (localization, planning, perception, fusion).
  • SUMO/CARLA simulations.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally on feasibility, estimation, execution
  • Interact with customers/stakeholders across project lifecycle
