Chemist Opportunity at Leidos in Vandergrift, PA

Leidos is seeking a skilled Chemist to join our Climate, Energy & Environmental Division’s onsite laboratory in Vandergrift, Pennsylvania. Support the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Shallow Land Disposal Area (SLDA) Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program (FUSRAP) with cutting-edge environmental remediation efforts. This role demands expertise in laboratory instrumentation, data analysis, and reporting while maintaining the highest safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Handle formal chain-of-custody sample receipt, verification, and LIMS logging.
  • Execute analyses via alpha spectroscopy, gamma spectroscopy, gross alpha/beta, liquid scintillation, and ICP-MS.
  • Ensure laboratory cleanliness through strict decontamination protocols.
  • Process and transfer results from instruments to LIMS systems.
  • Assemble comprehensive data packages, performing primary and secondary reviews to eliminate errors.
  • Strictly follow radiation and safety procedures across all lab areas.
  • Contribute to additional lab projects and travel to other Leidos sites for operational support.
  • Thrive in both independent and team-based environments.

What Sets You Apart

  • Bachelor’s in environmental science, chemistry, biology, or related discipline; or Associate’s with 2+ years lab experience.
  • Strong skills in data review, compilation, and delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Perform chain-of-custody sample receipt, verification, and LIMS logging
  • Conduct sample analysis using alpha spectroscopy, gamma spectroscopy, gross alpha/beta, liquid scintillation, and ICP-MS
  • Maintain clean laboratory environment and follow decontamination procedures
  • Process sample results from instrumentation to LIMS
  • Assemble data packages with primary and secondary reviews to correct errors
  • Adhere to all radiation and safety procedures
  • Support other lab projects and travel to Leidos facilities as needed
  • Work independently and collaboratively in team settings
