Chief Engineer - Lead Innovation in Air Traffic Management at Leidos

Leidos, a pioneer in air traffic control systems for over 50 years, handles 75% of U.S. air traffic and 60% of global traffic. Our UK ATM support with NATS since the 1990s drives modernisation of critical systems. Join us in Whiteley, Hampshire, as Chief Engineer, leading technical teams to deliver high-impact ATM solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead diverse engineering teams in delivering complex ATM projects, ensuring strategic alignment and operational success.
  • Break down technical deliverables into manageable parts, applying lifecycle methodologies, governance, and Model-Based Systems Engineering.
  • Develop innovative solutions using advanced ATM principles, including ConOps, requirements management, systems integration, and architecting.
  • Collaborate with field-leading experts, programme management, and senior leadership to influence business results.
  • Mentor and motivate teams as a technical champion, staying ahead with emerging technologies like service-oriented architectures.

Required Expertise

Demonstrate hands-on experience in ATM delivery, test engineering, risk management, trade studies, and stakeholder engagement. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Visio, and Excel is essential. Knowledge of current ATM operations and future industry trends is critical.

Your Profile

A self-starting leader with a Bachelor's or Master's degree in engineering or related field. Proven in systems engineering, large-scale integrations, and technical decision-making. Experience in engineering testing, quality assurance, system integration, and systems domains preferred.

  • Drive team delivery by shaping outcomes and breaking down technical work into trackable parts
  • Contribute to strategic project goals through advanced ATM technical principles and innovative solutions
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts, programme management, and senior leadership on designs and integrations
  • Champion technical delivery, recommend new standards, and inspire team with latest technologies
