Job Description

Lead the Future of Maritime Autonomy at Leidos

Leidos, a global technology leader in defense innovation, seeks a Chief Unmanned Systems Robotics Engineer for our Sea Systems Business Area. Support cutting-edge Unmanned Surface and Sub-surface Vessels development, driving autonomous systems that enhance global security.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop visionary technology strategies for unmanned maritime autonomous systems.
  • Engage customers, partners, and commercial entities to define requirements and deliver innovative solutions.
  • Lead internal program and design reviews to ensure technical excellence.
  • Collaborate with the Sea Systems CTO to shape Leidos' maritime autonomy vision.
  • Architect integrated systems alongside autonomy software teams and product managers.
  • Provide expert technical input for winning proposals.

Basic Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field + 15 years in robotic systems (focus on vision and systems engineering).
  • Proven leadership of large Unmanned Systems engineering teams.
  • US Citizenship; eligible for Top Secret clearance (CI polygraph possible).
  • Superior communication for technical-non-technical bridging and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills under pressure.
  • Knowledge of security best practices in regulated defense environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active Secret+ clearance.
  • PhD in Robotics, EE, ME, CS or related + 10 years experience.
  • Expertise in unmanned comms, payloads, PNT sensors, ROS, UMAA, OpenAUV, Linux/C++.
