Leidos is expanding its operations and seeks a highly motivated Civil Engineer Intern to join our Chicago, IL team. This role offers significant impact within a successful organization, working on electric transmission and substation civil/structural facilities. As part of a collaborative design team with engineers, designers, and CAD technicians, you'll contribute to projects while adhering to quality control, safety practices, and project timelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform substation civil/structural calculations under direct supervision
- Design foundation structures for transmission lines and substations
- Prepare Bill of Materials aligned with design criteria
- Apply National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) requirements
- Implement client standards in engineering designs
- Assist in developing client-specific standards
- Collaborate with designers to create construction documentation and plans
Required Qualifications
Must be enrolled in an accredited Civil Engineering program emphasizing Structures, with completion of at least one course each in structural analysis, steel/concrete design, and foundations/geotechnics. Knowledge of transmission/substation design is advantageous. Successful candidates demonstrate deadline adherence, teamwork, initiative, strong communication, detail orientation, analytical skills, and computer proficiency.
