Distribution Design Engineer - Leidos, Framingham, MA

Leidos is seeking talented Distribution Design Engineers for our Framingham, MA office to deliver cutting-edge solutions for electric distribution systems. Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop construction work packages for overhead (OH), underground (UG), and underground residential distribution (URD) systems operating from 4kV to 138kV.
  • Perform critical engineering calculations including structural pole analysis, guying, cable pulling, electric demand, fault currents, and protective device coordination.
  • Leverage advanced tools like GIS, AutoCAD 3D, Civil 3D, PLS-CADD, MicroStation, WMS, O-Calc, SPIDA Calc, Pole Foreman, and SAP.
  • Manage joint use make-ready projects, forestry trimming requests, permit/Right-of-Way acquisition, BOM development, cost estimation, and customer CIAC/easements.
  • Ensure compliance with quality control, safe work practices, project scope, schedule, and budget.

Required Qualifications

  • BS degree in engineering or related field; power/communications utility experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with NESC standards and distribution design in complex urban environments.

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Proficiency in ESRI, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, PLS-CADD, MicroStation, GIS, pole loading software, and SAP.
  • Hands-on experience with medium voltage switchgear, voltage conversion, distribution automation, and dense urban cable/conduit projects.
  • Strong communication skills for client and team interactions.

  • Develop BOM, cost estimates, customer CIAC calculations
  • Handle joint use make-ready projects
  • Ensure compliance with quality control, safety, scope, schedule, budget
