Job Description

Distribution Designer Opportunity at Leidos in Minneapolis, MN

Leidos is seeking talented Distribution Designers to join our team on the MYR Master Design Build contract in Minneapolis, MN. This temp-to-perm role offers the chance to develop construction work packages for overhead (OH), underground (UG), and underground residential distribution (URD) systems across the client's footprint. Projects include joint use make-ready and street light designs, utilizing GIS, CAD tools, Work Management Systems (WMS), and client-specific platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design work packages for electric distribution feeders in diverse environments.
  • Perform field engineering, identify utility conflicts, and execute post-construction reviews.
  • Conduct calculations for pole structural analysis, guying, cable pulling, demand, fault currents, and protective coordination.
  • Manage forestry requests, permits, ROW acquisition, BOM development, cost estimation, easements, and CIAC.

Required Qualifications

  • 2-year technical degree or H.S. Diploma with <2 years relevant experience.

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Proficiency in STORMS, Katapult, ESRI, AutoCAD, PDS, GIS.
  • Pole loading tools: DDS, O-Calc, SPIDA Calc, Pole Foreman, LD Field.
  • 3rd party make-ready design, civil/electrical packages, NESC familiarity.
  • Excellent communication, Microsoft Office, strong math skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop construction work packages for electric distribution systems using GIS, CAD, and WMS
  • Perform field visits and engineering of project requirements
  • Conduct engineering calculations including structural pole analysis, guying, cable pulling, electric demand, fault currents, and protective device coordination
  • Prepare forestry trimming requests, permits, Right-of-Way acquisition, BOM, cost estimates, and CIAC calculations
  • Identify conflicting utilities, develop joint use make-ready designs, and conduct post-construction reviews
