Job Description

Distribution Engineer - Join Leidos in Kahului, HI

Leidos is seeking passionate Distribution Engineers in Kahului, Maui, HI (Relocation Available!) to deliver exceptional electric utility design engineering. Work directly with clients on high-quality projects spanning overloaded transformers, inspections, joint use, and maintenance for systems from 4kV to 138kV. Gain expertise in NESC, structural pole modeling, power calculations, GIS, field data, and client standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Independently develop moderately complex design and construction packages for overhead/underground distribution.
  • Perform structural analysis, guying calculations, conductor sags/tensions, voltage drop, and flicker analysis.
  • Coordinate with AHJs, right-of-way, forestry, field teams, and 3rd-party pole owners.
  • Review client work, assist teams, develop permits, and explain technical solutions.
  • Support construction with reviews, root cause outage analysis, and standards compliance.
  • Travel to sites (15-25%) and work in outdoor environments using personal vehicle.

Required Qualifications

  • 2+ years relevant experience.
  • B.S. in Engineering (ABET-accredited) or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in NESC, AutoCAD/MicroStation, Bluebeam/Adobe, MS Office; GIS and tools like BOUD, Pole Foreman, Spida-Calc, O-Calc a plus.
  • Strong communication; field/office flexibility.

  • Ability to travel 15-25% and work outdoors (experience)
  • Valid driver's license for personal vehicle use (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Develop design and construction work packages for overhead/underground distribution systems (4kV-138kV)
  • Perform engineering calculations (structural pole loading, guying, sags/tensions, voltage drop)
  • Coordinate with permit agencies, right-of-way specialists, system owners, and stakeholders
  • Review client scopes, assist technical staff, and conduct peer reviews
  • Provide construction support, post-construction reviews, and root cause outage analysis
  • Ensure compliance with safety, design, and quality standards
