Electrical Hardware Design Engineering Intern - Leidos Defense Systems

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist in designing, simulating, modeling, and testing hardware solutions including PCBAs for power supply, mixed-signal, FPGA, and microcontroller applications.
  • Utilize industry-standard tools like Mentor Graphics, Altium for PCB design, SPICE for simulation, and Visio for documentation.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive hardware verification plans.
  • Debug and troubleshoot hardware using oscilloscopes, signal generators, and other test equipment.
  • Collaborate closely with mentors and cross-functional teams on concept development, architecting, implementation, signal integrity analysis, and power distribution network design.

Basic Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering or related field from an accredited institution.
  • Maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • US Citizen able to obtain and maintain DoD Secret security clearance.
  • Fundamental understanding of circuit theory and design principles.
  • Programming experience in VHDL, Verilog, Python, SPICE, or C/C++.
  • Hands-on experience with hardware functionality testing.
  • Proven problem-solving, teamwork, and communication abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing, testing, troubleshooting, and manufacturing complex multi-layer circuit card assemblies.
  • Digital design expertise with embedded processors, microcontrollers, or VHDL-based FPGAs.
  • Knowledge of switched-mode power supply (SMPS) design.
  • Familiarity with Mentor Graphics electrical engineering development tools.
