Join Leidos as an Environmental Scientist at Kennedy Space Center

Leidos is seeking a skilled Environmental Scientist to support the NASA Environmental and Medical Contract (NEMCON) at Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Merritt Island, FL. Play a critical role in ensuring environmental compliance for NASA and the United States Space Force (USSF) amid groundbreaking space missions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Apply scientific and engineering methods to analyze environmental issues, prevent pollution, and predict future risks.
  • Interpret federal, state, and local regulations (RCRA, DOT, TSCA) to guide facility programs and compliance.
  • Classify wastes from KSC/USSF operations and manage transport, recycling, treatment, or disposal.
  • Coordinate specialized studies, waste shipments, and innovative environmental technologies.
  • Serve as Site Supervisor for post-emergency spill cleanups and HAZWOPER first responder operations.
  • Author detailed reports, procedures, and handbooks for environmental compliance.
  • Ensure safe handling of hazardous wastes, including segregation, containerization, and emergency response.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental science, chemistry, or related discipline with 8+ years of relevant experience.
  • Expertise in waste management regs (hazardous, universal, PCBs, asbestos, biomedical, DEA substances), DOT transport, and OSHA HAZWOPER.
  • Must obtain certifications: DOT HAZMAT (90 days), RCRA TSDF (6 months), OSHA HAZWOPER (immediate).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; strong math, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license, pass occupational health physical, and eligible for Public Trust clearance (U.S. Citizenship/Permanent Residency required).

  • Supervise post-emergency spill cleanups as HAZWOPER Site Supervisor
  • Prepare environmental reports, procedures, and compliance guidelines
  • Manage hazardous waste segregation, handling, and emergency response
