Join Leidos as an Environmental Scientist at Kennedy Space Center

Leidos is seeking a skilled Environmental Scientist for the Environmental Sampling, Analysis, and Monitoring (ESAM) Section under the NASA Environmental and Medical Contract (NEMCON) at Kennedy Space Center (KSC), Merritt Island, FL. Support NASA's Environmental Assurance Branch (EAB) and provide limited assistance to the United States Space Force (USSF) at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station (CCSFS) and Patrick Space Force Base (PSFB). Ensure strict compliance with Federal, State, NASA, and Space Force regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage sampling activities and deliverables for permits covering solid waste, industrial wastewater, stormwater, groundwater, and potable water.
  • Investigate spills, lead post-emergency responses, and act as temporary Spill Cleanup Team Lead.
  • Supervise waste characterization, validate lab reports, and prepare complex technical reports with maps and data visualizations.
  • Oversee equipment maintenance, lab subcontracts, and develop safety procedures.
  • Maintain records, inventory, and a safe work environment in field and office settings.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science or related field + 4 years experience.
  • 40-Hour HAZWOPER (preferred or within 6 months).
  • Expertise in environmental regulations, FDEP SOPs, technical writing, and MS Office.
  • U.S. Citizenship/Permanent Residency for Public Trust clearance; ability to pass health physical.

Preferred Skills

  • GIS experience for mapping field data.

  • Ability to pass occupational health physical and work in demanding field conditions (up to 25lbs lifting, uneven terrain, all weather) (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Oversee sampling projects and reporting for environmental permits including solid waste, industrial wastewater, stormwater, groundwater, and potable water
  • Lead contamination incident investigations, spill responses, and serve as temporary Post-Emergency Spill Cleanup Team Lead
  • Supervise waste characterization sampling for transportation and disposal
  • Validate analytical reports, prepare technical deliverables with data tables, figures, and maps
  • Manage field equipment, lab subcontracts, procedures development, and administrative duties like record keeping and inventory
