Join Leidos as an Environmental Scientist (Construction) at Kennedy Space Center

Leidos is seeking a skilled Environmental Scientist to join our NASA Environmental and Medical Contract (NEMCON) team at Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Merritt Island, Florida. As an Environmental Point of Contact (EPOC), you will ensure environmental compliance across all phases of NASA construction projects, supporting critical missions for NASA Construction of Facilities (CoF), Local Authority Institutional Projects, and Exploration Ground Systems (EGS).

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver technical guidance through project lifecycle, reviewing construction deliverables like shop drawings.
  • Prepare KSC Environmental Checklists and conduct site walk-downs to identify hazards and permits.
  • Participate in design reviews, pre-work meetings, and site inspections to enforce Record of Environmental Consideration (REC) requirements.
  • Coordinate waste management and provide on-site consultation for stormwater, hazardous wastes, PCBs, tanks, and natural resources.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science or related field + 8 years relevant experience.
  • Expertise in environmental regulations and hazardous waste handling under large quantity generator status.
  • Proficiency in engineering documents, Microsoft Office, and construction practices.
  • U.S. Citizenship/Permanent Residency for Public Trust clearance; valid driver’s license and health physical required.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, geology, chemistry, biology, or related scientific discipline with 8+ years directly related experience (experience)
  • U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent Residency required for Public Trust background investigation (experience)
  • Valid driver’s license and eligibility for federal facility clearance (experience)
  • Ability to pass occupational health physical and maintain required certifications (experience)
  • General understanding of construction site operations from small refurbishments to large-scale projects (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical direction to NASA-KSC construction projects across all phases including review of shop drawings and transmittals
  • Assist in preparing KSC Environmental Checklist to identify compliance requirements
  • Conduct site walk-downs to identify environmental hazards, permit needs, and recycling opportunities
  • Participate in design reviews and pre-work meetings to communicate environmental requirements
  • Perform site inspections during construction to ensure REC compliance and mitigate issues
  • Coordinate waste containers and provide field consultation on multimedia environmental requirements
