Make a meaningful impact with Leidos on the NASA Environmental and Medical Contract (NEMCON). We're seeking a dedicated Environmental Scientist to support NASA's Environmental Assurance Branch (EAB) at Kennedy Space Center (KSC), ensuring compliance with Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures (SPCC) regulations and Florida Administrative Codes (FAC) 62-762 and 62-761 for petroleum, oils, and lubricants (POL) storage tanks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as subject matter expert (SME) for SPCC and Florida storage tank regulations.
  • Facilitate documentation for tank registration, installation, modification, testing, and closure, including regulatory meetings and inspections.
  • Prepare data calls to KSC contractors, compile responses, and update the KSC SPCC Plan.
  • Maintain the SPCC Site Specific Plan Database and brief NASA on POL trends.
  • Participate in engineering design reviews (EDRs) to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Support internal surveillance, audits, and partnering meetings.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and assess risks to KSC operations.
  • Maintain a safe, clean work environment.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Expertise in SPCC and FAC 62-762/62-761 regulations.
  • Knowledge of storage tank systems, inspections, testing, and reporting.
  • General environmental knowledge (water, air, hazardous waste).

  • Prepare documents for tank registration, installation, modification, testing, and closure
  • Conduct regulatory compliance inspections and resolve violations with KSC contractors
  • Maintain KSC SPCC Site Specific Plan Database and brief NASA on POL changes
  • Participate in engineering design reviews for POL storage activities
  • Support internal surveillance inspections, audits, and partnering team meetings
  • Review proposed regulations and assess impacts to NASA-KSC operations
  • Ensure workplace safety and report hazards
