Facilities Mechanical Engineer – Mission-Critical Facilities Design

Leidos is seeking a driven, detail-oriented Junior level Mechanical Engineer to support the planning, design, and analysis of mechanical systems—primarily HVAC—for secure, mission-critical operations in government, commercial, and institutional facilities. This growth-focused role offers hands-on experience alongside senior engineers, developing high-performance, energy-efficient, code-compliant systems for 24/7 operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design HVAC systems, including ductwork, piping, ventilation, and equipment selection for high-availability environments.
  • Prepare construction drawings and specifications using AutoCAD, Revit MEP, or similar tools.
  • Conduct system load calculations, energy modeling, and equipment sizing with Trace 700, HAP, or eQUEST.
  • Perform field surveys, site investigations, and facility condition assessments.
  • Execute commissioning, testing, and balancing to ensure optimal performance.
  • Review submittals, respond to RFIs, and support construction administration.
  • Ensure designs comply with ASHRAE, NFPA, IBC, IMC, and LEED standards.
  • Maintain documentation such as technical memos, reports, and as-built drawings.
  • Work with Building Management Systems (BMS) for HVAC, lighting, and life safety control.
  • Collaborate with electrical, architectural, and structural teams for integrated solutions.

Basic Qualifications

  • Ability to obtain Top Secret/SCI with Polygraph clearance (active clearance preferred).
  • Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering or related field; 4+ years experience (or <2 years with Master’s).
  • Proficiency in CAD (AutoCAD, SolidWorks); knowledge of static/dynamic analysis.
  • Strong communication, organizational skills, and multidisciplinary teamwork.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active TS/SCI with Polygraph or any clearance level.
  • Master’s in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience with SolidWorks Simulation, ANSYS, FEA/thermal tools.
  • Hands-on prototyping, project management, and regulated environments (aerospace, defense).
