Join Leidos as a Flight Systems Aerospace Simulation Engineer in Huntsville, AL

Leidos is seeking an early-career Aerospace Simulation Engineer for our Flight Systems Department within the Missiles & Aviation Systems Division. Tackle complex technical challenges in analysis, design, and testing of advanced flight vehicle systems. Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain high-fidelity 6-DOF, 3-DOF, and hardware-in-the-loop (HWIL) simulations incorporating aerodynamic, propulsion models, GNC algorithms, and flight dynamics.
  • Perform precise flight vehicle dynamics analysis to inform design decisions, trade studies, mission planning, live flight tests, and system performance characterization.
  • Deliver actionable assessments to DOW policymakers, acquisition programs, and warfighters.
  • Build scripts, GUIs, and utilities to streamline analysis and support programmatic initiatives.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related field (ABET-accredited, GPA 3.0+).
  • Fundamental knowledge of flight dynamics, simulation, orbital mechanics, GNC.
  • Programming experience in MATLAB/Simulink, C/C++, Python.
  • Strong communication skills; ability to work independently and in teams.
  • US Citizen eligible for DoD Secret Clearance.
  • On-site in Huntsville, AL (relocation support available).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with DOW digital engineering, post-flight data analysis, Linux, HWIL architectures, GPS simulators.
  • Proficiency in Git/Mercurial, TAOS/OTIS, Simulink code-generation, optimal estimation/controls, sensor fusion (Kalman/Particle Filters), GPS-denied navigation, GNC for flight vehicles/UAS.
  • Advanced math: linear algebra, statistics, trigonometry, coordinate transformations, numerical optimization.
