Join Leidos in supporting cutting-edge intramural human use research at the Naval Medical Research Unit in Dayton, OH. Focus on human performance under aerospace stressors like hypoxia, breathing resistance, motion sickness, spatial disorientation, and thermal stress. Specialize in Vestibular Science, Human Factors, and Physiology to optimize service member resilience and warfighter performance.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Conduct research as Research Assistant I: collect data, follow protocols, make safety decisions with guidance.
  • Support full project lifecycle: literature searches, bibliographies, pilot testing, protocol/experimental procedure development, participant screening/scheduling.
  • Handle scheduling, screening, data collection/management/analysis using devices like EyeSeeCam, MOOG, VerTec Vision Advantage, BioPac.
  • Prepare protocols, provide planning support, develop presentations/publications.
  • Create SOPs, clean/maintain instrumentation, labs, equipment; manage supply inventory.

Basic Qualifications

  • BA/BS (Biology, Exercise Physiology, Biomedical Engineering, Biomechanics, Physiology preferred; other STEM like Human Factors, Psychology, Math considered) + 1+ years relevant experience.
  • US Citizen, eligible for Secret Clearance.
  • Human subject research experience in cognitive/physiological/neurological/performance assessments.
  • Strong organization, attention to detail, safety compliance.
  • Willing to work office/lab/field, including evenings/nights/weekends for data collection.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Military/medical research experience.
  • Physiological data collection, scientific/technical writing.
  • Test/Evaluation awareness, STEM focus (engineering/physiology/psychology).
  • CITI training certificate, Machine Learning/coding coursework.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research data collection following protocols, ensuring subject safety
  • Assist across project lifecycle: literature searches, pilot testing, protocol preparation, participant screening/scheduling
  • Manage scheduling, screening, data collection, analysis, and physiological device operation
  • Develop presentations/publications, SOPs for lab equipment
  • Maintain labs, equipment, inventory; monitor supplies
