Lead Embedded Software Engineer (Autonomy) at Leidos

Join Leidos in Lynnwood, WA, to lead firmware engineering for Uncrewed Underwater Vehicle (UUV) programs serving critical Department of Defense missions. Outthink, outbuild, and outpace the status quo on autonomous maritime systems.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead small teams in firmware/embedded development from project start to delivery.
  • Collaborate on schedules, budgets, and resource allocation with project managers and customers.
  • Mentor engineers in technical, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Decompose requirements into actionable firmware specs and design architectures for autonomous vehicles.
  • Develop features, estimate team efforts, and resolve complex technical challenges.
  • Innovate software/firmware processes using Agile tools like Jira and Confluence.
  • Support testing to deliver high-quality, mission-ready products.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s (12-15 years experience) or Master’s (10-13 years) in relevant field.
  • US Citizenship; Secret clearance eligibility.
  • Expert C/C++ in Linux/embedded; STM32 microcontrollers; I2C/SPI/UART/CAN interfaces.
  • Leadership eagerness; UML familiarity; Agile experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Python, virtualization (Docker/VMware), autonomy software, undersea vehicles.
  • Thread safety, state machines, code testing/debugging.

  • Analyze requirements and design embedded architectures for autonomous UUVs
  • Develop features, estimate efforts, and arbitrate technical decisions
  • Drive process improvements and Agile methodologies
  • Guide testing and ensure high-quality product delivery
