Join Leidos as a Lead Software Engineer in Arlington, VA

Leidos is seeking an experienced Lead Software Engineer to drive innovation in unmanned and autonomous ships for the US Government. Based in Arlington, VA, you'll join a dynamic team of over 30 developers working on high-stakes projects that transform maritime operations. Develop software for ship automation, autonomous navigation, sensor processing, communications, and advanced simulations for verification and testing. As a technical leader, you'll design, code, test, and mentor within Agile Scrum teams, contributing to projects from design through field testing.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and debug mission-critical C++ software on Linux platforms.
  • Lead full software development lifecycle activities in a collaborative Scrum environment.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level developers while serving as technical lead on key projects.
  • Perform rigorous peer code reviews to ensure quality and reliability.
  • Drive continuous process improvements and evaluate field test outcomes.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders; travel up to 25%.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in Computer Science or STEM + 4+ years software development (or Master’s + 2+ years), including 2+ years Linux/C++.
  • Proven team leadership, coaching, and complex systems design experience.
  • Exposure to high availability systems, sensor fusion, path planning, or military integrations.
  • Eligibility for Secret Security Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Atlassian Suite, Jenkins/Bamboo CI/CD, AI/game theory, safety-critical software.
  • Active Secret Clearance and strong problem-solving skills.
