Lead Software Engineer – Computer Vision & Automation (Transportation)

Join Leidos at the Federal Highway Administration’s Saxton Transportation Operations Laboratory (STOL) in McLean, VA, to revolutionize transportation with connected and automated vehicle (CAV) technologies. Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead software/system delivery for object recognition and automation in transportation apps, meeting technical/compliance standards.
  • Serve as technical lead on medium-large projects with state/local DOTs, overseeing design/development/delivery.
  • Drive business development via proposals and client partnerships.
  • Decompose requirements into actionable tasks for team execution.
  • Align solutions with stakeholders, managers, and regulations.
  • Maintain documentation, reports, and contract deliverables.
  • Mentor on advanced tech, automation, and secure practices.
  • Estimate costs, schedules, and performance accurately.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s +5 years or Bachelor’s +7 years experience.
  • 5+ years transportation object recognition/automation with camera/lidar/radar.
  • Python/Java/C++ proficiency.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Relational DB experience.
  • Fast-paced research environment; 10% travel.
  • Public Trust eligible (3/5 years US residency).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Business development success in partnerships/revenue growth.
  • Computer vision model design/training/deployment.
