Lead Substation Physical Engineer
Join Leidos, a Top 10 ENR-ranked T&D and Power Firm, as a Lead Substation Physical Engineer in our dynamic Atlanta, GA team. Play a pivotal role in designing high-voltage utility substation projects while enjoying remote and hybrid support. Candidates must live in the US and be available for Atlanta metro staff meetings and site visits.
The Challenge
- Execute conceptual and detailed HV/MV substation physical/electrical designs (layouts, one-line, three-line, plan-section, grounding, AC/DC systems).
- Perform advanced engineering studies, calculations, and grounding/lightning protection analyses.
- Lead QC reviews, BOM creation, proposals, and scopes for medium/large projects.
- Deliver technical presentations, mentor juniors, and supervise 1-6 direct reports.
- Drive client satisfaction through interactions and site visits with excellent communication.
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor’s in Electrical/Mechanical/Civil Engineering + 8+ years substation physical design.
- Proven leadership in projects, bids/proposals, QC checks, and drawing expertise (physical/protection/control).
- Grounding studies experience; ability to travel for site visits.
Nice to Have
- P.E. License, Master’s degree, QA/QC experience.
- Protection/control design, BUS calculations, WinIGS/CDEGS, SDS AutoCAD Electrical.

- Experience supervising 1-6 direct reports (experience)
- Ability to perform quality control checks on substation designs (experience)
- Proficiency in reading and designing substation physical and protection/control drawings (experience)
Responsibilities
