Lead Transmission Line Engineer at Leidos

Join Leidos as a Lead Transmission Line Engineer and manage a dynamic team tackling complex high voltage electric transmission challenges. Serve as Lead Engineer and Technical Project Manager on overhead and underground projects from 34.5 kV to 765 kV for major U.S. utilities. Apply standards like NESC, ASCE, ACI, and NEC across capital and maintenance initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct teams in PLS-CADD modeling, structure loading, foundation design (MFAD/LPILE), framing, hardware, drafting, BOM, and procurement through all project phases.
  • Handle client relations, proposals, scope management, execution, and business development.
  • Supervise staff: approve timesheets, conduct reviews, mentor, and forecast workloads for growth.
  • Drive quality control, innovation with AI/automation, and process improvements.
  • Liaise with clients, manage portfolio health, and foster team culture.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in Civil (preferred) or Mechanical Engineering + 8+ years transmission design experience.
  • Expertise in PLS-CADD/PLS-POLE; EIT certification.
  • Strong communication, business acumen, team collaboration, and mentoring passion.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years supervising staff; M.S. Structural Engineering; TOWER experience; P.E. or eligible in 6 months; LPILE/FAD, Mathcad, AutoCAD/MicroStation.

Responsibilities

  • Direct multiple design teams on high voltage transmission line projects (overhead and underground, 34.5 kV to 765 kV)
  • Lead engineering analyses, PLS-CADD modeling, structure loading calculations, foundation design, framing, hardware assemblies, drafting, BOM, and procurement
  • Manage client relations, proposal development, scope creation/change, project execution, and new business capture
  • Supervise staff including timesheets, performance reviews, training, coaching, and mentoring
  • Drive quality control, continuous improvement, innovation with AI/automation, and workload forecasting/recruiting
  • Liaise with clients for relationship building and business growth
  • Participate in leadership team, respond to RFPs/RFIs/RQFs, and promote team culture
  • Oversee portfolio health, schedule/budget compliance via Project Managers
