Join Leidos' Security Enterprise Solutions as a Machine Learning Engineer/Chemist

Leidos’ Security Enterprise Solutions (SES) is seeking a Machine Learning Engineer with strong analytical chemistry instrumentation background to drive our data science and AI initiatives. Build and maintain ML models and pipelines for trace detection using Ion Mobility Spectrometry (IMS) technology. Collaborate cross-functionally to deploy scalable solutions with real-world impact in automated security systems.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end ML model lifecycle: design, development, testing, deployment for IMS-based trace detection algorithms.
  • Handle large datasets: cleaning, preprocessing, feature engineering.
  • Partner with chemists, data scientists, engineers, product managers for seamless ML integration.
  • Monitor performance, retrain models, ensure production reliability.
  • Document processes, establish best practices, track latest ML advancements.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in chemistry/chemical engineering or CS/Engineering/Math + 5+ years IMS/MS hands-on experience.
  • US citizenship for Public Trust clearance.
  • ML fundamentals: supervised/unsupervised learning, evaluation metrics.
  • Python proficiency + scikit-learn, pandas, NumPy.
  • OOP design, PyTorch familiarity, cloud (AWS/GCP/Azure), Git, MLOps basics, SQL.
  • Exceptional problem-solving, communication, adaptability.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s in chemistry/data science + 3-5 years ML experience.
  • Proven ML deployment in spectrometry projects.
  • Cloud certifications, deep PyTorch expertise, data engineering (Airflow, Spark).
  • Open-source contributions, Kaggle, publications.
