Mandarin Toponymist / Geospatial Linguist - TS/SCI Required
Join Leidos in St. Louis, MO, supporting critical Intelligence Community missions as a Mandarin Toponymist/Geospatial Linguist. Leverage your language and GIS expertise to ensure accurate geographic names data for national security.
Primary Responsibilities
- Analyze and conflate GNDB feature data with IC geographic names experts.
- Respond to queries on names, romanization (e.g., Pinyin), and descriptors using GNPS, charts, imagery, and tools.
- Maintain GNDB accuracy via data entry, batching, and updates for U.S./foreign users.
- Research, geo-reference maps/imagery; verify spelling/metadata; conflate with GNDB.
- Apply BGN, DoS, NATO policies on toponymy.
- Use ArcGIS Pro, QGIS for research; produce shapefiles, geodatabases from native/historic sources.
- Recommend native data acquisitions; provide translations; ensure ITAR compliance.
Basic Qualifications
- Active TS/SCI + willingness for POLY REQUIRED.
- HS + 10+ years experience (or equivalent).
- Mandarin ILR 2+ reading certification.
- Intermediate-advanced ArcGIS Pro/QGIS experience.
- Advanced geographic names methodologies knowledge.
- GEOINT sources expertise; fast-paced team/independent work.

- Enter, maintain, and batch updates to GNDB for federal and international users
- Research, scan, geo-reference hydrographic/topographic sources, verify metadata
- Interpret policies from BGN, DoS, NATO; create shapefiles and geodatabases
- Conduct research via ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, office tools, native/internet sources
- Recommend and source native maps/data for production
- Provide foreign translation support; ensure ITAR compliance
