Join Leidos' DLBA Naval Architects in Chesapeake, VA

DLBA Naval Architects, a division of Gibbs & Cox now part of Leidos, leads in naval architecture, marine engineering, and small-craft design. We're hiring a Marine Mechanical and Electrical Engineer with shipyard experience to deliver solutions on fast-paced projects, from high-performance sportfishing boats to DARPA innovations.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide expertise in marine engineering design across the lifecycle for high-speed small craft.
  • Develop specifications, analyses, and calculations for systems including rudders, propulsion, HVAC, bilge/ballast, fuel, seawater cooling, anchoring, hydraulics, and 12/24 VDC/ AC electrical systems.
  • Mentor juniors, conduct peer QC reviews, and guide CAD modeling.
  • Prepare client deliverables like reports, briefings, proposals, and estimates.

Basic Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship; Secret clearance eligible.
  • B.S.+ in relevant field; 5+ years marine design experience.
  • Deep small craft expertise; EPLA, cable schedules, one-lines, BOMs.
  • Regulatory knowledge (ABS/RINA/LR/ISO/USCG/ABYC); Class/Flag submissions.
  • AutoCAD/Rhino proficiency; MS Office; strong communication/problem-solving.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Shipyard/boatyard experience; PE license; CAD/engineering certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Develop designs for propulsion, HVAC, fluid systems, and electrical systems throughout lifecycle
  • Prepare calculations, specifications, and drawings for regulatory approval
  • Mentor junior staff and perform quality-control reviews
  • Communicate technical details to CAD designers for 3D models
  • Create proposals, reports, briefings, and cost estimates for clients
