Join our Advanced Materials Department in Huntsville, AL, as a Materials & Process Engineer, supporting every program phase from R&D to manufacturing. Our multi-disciplinary team excels in materials science, chemistry, physics, with cutting-edge analysis equipment, multi-physics modeling, and experimental labs.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Balance activities like material selection, metallurgy, composites, ceramics, process improvements, RCCA investigations, PM&P Plans, and qualifications.
  • Support design/drawings and manufacturing enhancements.
  • Investigate non-conformances and lead testing.
  • Liaise across Leidos to align materials/processes with goals.
  • Plan/execute characterization tests (tensile, lap shear, metals/composites analysis).
  • Solve challenges analytically/experimentally in fast-paced settings.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in Chemistry, Materials Science, Engineering, or Physical Sciences (ABET).
  • 4+ years in materials processes/selection/metallography/analysis.
  • Project/program M&P testing experience (aerospace/defense preferred).
  • US Citizen, DOD Secret Clearance eligible.
  • On-site in Huntsville, AL.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expertise in tensile/lap shear, metals/composites analysis.
  • Hands-on with Load Frame, ICP-MS/OES, SEM, TGA, TMA, XPS, XRD.
  • Non-metallic materials like polymer/ceramic-matrix composites.

  • Experience executing M&P and materials testing for aerospace/defense projects (experience)
  • US Citizen with active or eligible DOD Secret Clearance (experience)
  • Resident of North Alabama or willing to relocate to Huntsville, AL for on-site work (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Support programs in material selection, metallurgy, fabrication, composites, ceramics, and process improvements
  • Provide M&P support to mechanical/aerospace design, drawings, and manufacturing
  • Investigate non-conformance issues, perform/guide testing
  • Liaise between Advanced Materials Dept and other Leidos organizations
  • Conduct materials characterization and mechanical tests, plan procedures, coordinate with customers
  • Solve complex engineering challenges analytically and experimentally
