Leidos' Non-Kinetic Effects Business Area seeks a Materials Science Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command – Chemical Biological Center (DEVCOM CBC) at Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD. Drive cutting-edge research to ensure Warfighter dominance in chemical and biological threats.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead multidisciplinary team in analyzing chemical materials and developing novel polymers/thermoplastics.
  • Perform characterization, testing, evaluation, and modeling against chemical warfare agents, non-traditional agents, TICs, and TIMs.
  • Collaborate with DEVCOM CBC Principal Investigators, scientists, chemists, and engineers on R&D efforts.
  • Apply expertise in melt spinning, rheology, DSC, ASTM mechanical testing, SEM, and filtration (N95/HEPA).

Basic Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Materials Science, Chemistry, Engineering, or equivalent + 20+ years experience.
  • U.S. Citizen with DoD Secret Clearance eligibility (Top Secret potential).
  • SME in polymer/thermoplastic R&D; proficient in specified technologies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Organic synthesis expertise; CFD modeling for vapors/particulates.
  • CAD experience; multilayer thermoplastics knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Lead team in chemical materials analysis and novel materials development (polymers, thermoplastics)
  • Characterize, test, evaluate, and model materials against chemical warfare agents, non-traditional agents, TICs/TIMs
  • Support DEVCOM CBC Principal Investigator, research scientists, chemists, and engineers
  • Conduct advanced testing using melt spinning, rheology, DSC, ASTM, SEM, and filtration technologies
  • Drive basic/applied research, development, testing, and evaluation for U.S. Warfighter chemical/biological defense
