Mechanical Engineer - Join Leidos' Maritime Systems Division

Leidos is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support cutting-edge engineering for Unmanned Underwater Vehicles (UUVs) within our Maritime System Solutions (MSS) Portfolio. Your Responsibilities

You will design and analyze mechanical systems for UUVs, including propulsion, dynamic control, structures, electronics, payloads, and launch/recovery systems. Create 3D models and ASME Y14.100-compliant drawings in Solidworks PDM Pro. Perform analyses using hand calculations and tools like Solidworks, ANSYS, and COMSOL. Present designs in reviews, collaborate across disciplines, and support lab/sea testing.

Required Qualifications

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering (0-2 years experience).
  • Secret clearance eligibility.
  • Solidworks/PDM Pro expertise; ASME drawing/GD&T skills.
  • Analysis experience in thermal, structural, hydrodynamic domains.
  • Hands-on mechanical work; physical capability for demanding environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Maritime/ocean engineering background.
  • UUV systems experience (operations, sensors, launch/recovery).
  • Machining, fabrication, and 3D printing skills.

  • Perform structural, vibration, shock, thermal, and hydrodynamic analyses
  • Present designs and justify decisions in internal/external reviews
  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams and support prototyping/testing at sea
