Mechanical Engineer - Leidos Maritime Systems Division

Join Leidos' Maritime Systems Division (MSD) as a Mechanical Engineer supporting Unmanned Underwater Vehicles (UUVs) for U.S. Navy missions. Your Responsibilities

  • Design/analyze UUV systems: propulsion, control, structure, electronics, payloads, launch/recovery.
  • Mentor junior mechanical engineers.
  • Develop 3D Solidworks models/drawings per ASME Y14.100; manage in PDM Pro.
  • Conduct analyses (structural, vibration, shock, thermal, hydrodynamic) via hand calcs/FEA (Solidworks, ANSYS, COMSOL).
  • Present designs in internal/external reviews; justify decisions.
  • Collaborate with EE, software, manufacturing, systems teams.
  • Build/test prototypes in lab and at-sea environments.

Required Qualifications

  • B.S. Mechanical Engineering + 4-8 yrs or M.S. + 2-6 yrs relevant experience.
  • Secret clearance eligible.
  • Solidworks/PDM Pro expertise; ASME GD&T (Y14.5); FEA/CFD proficiency.
  • Prototype design/build/test background; physical capabilities (lifting, climbing).
  • Strong organization, communication, troubleshooting skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Maritime/ocean engineering; UUV systems experience.
  • Machining, 3D printing, DOD IPTs, subsea acoustics, corrosion design.
