Principal Software Data Engineer at Leidos

Leidos seeks an experienced Principal Software Data Engineer to architect a cutting-edge data foundation powering AI/ML tools for generative and predictive applications. Analyze diverse datasets from disparate sources to drive business analytics and mission-critical insights. Define tools, schemas, and ontologies, documenting them for seamless implementation by software engineers and clear understanding by management.

Primary Responsibilities

• Design and implement big data systems, ETL pipelines, and Data Lakes/Lakehouse/Meshes.
• Engineer schemas, ontologies, and data foundations optimized for AI/ML and analytics.
• Implement row/cell-level data access controls for secure, compliant operations.
• Develop comprehensive documentation of data definitions and architectural designs.
• Collaborate with product owners to align technical solutions with business goals.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's +12 years or Master's +10 years relevant experience (equivalent experience considered).
• Active Secret clearance (TS/SCI eligibility required).
• 5+ years with large-scale structured/unstructured data systems.
• 5+ years AI/ML principles; ability to build intelligent, autonomous systems.
• Proven skills in tools/algorithms for business performance and technical innovation.
• Excellent communication to explain complex data engineering to non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

• Hands-on with Apache Spark, Delta Lake, Airflow, Kafka, Great Expectations, Ranger.
• Digital Engineering (SysML) and AI/ML algorithm development.
• Operational DevOps support for data foundations; Medallion architecture familiarity.
