Operate at the USDOT’s premier research lab in McLean, VA, advancing connected and automated vehicle technologies for safer, more efficient mobility. Full-time on-site internship collaborating with interdisciplinary experts on V2V, V2I, and V2X systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build MATLAB/Simulink simulations to evaluate communication latency, reliability, and performance.
  • Design scenarios using tools like Argonne’s RoadRunner for robust testing.
  • Configure hardware/software for traffic signals, management systems, and vehicle guidance.
  • Perform data operations: collection, analysis, warehousing, and retrieval.
  • Test automated vehicles, radios, and simulations in safe environments.
  • Support tech transfer through stakeholder sessions and open-source development.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s/PhD candidate in EE, Civil Eng, CS, Automotive Tech, or similar.
  • Expertise in MATLAB/Simulink, automated simulations, connected vehicle standards (SAE J2735, NTCIP 1202).
  • Programming proficiency (C++, Python, JAVA, Bash).
  • Valid driver’s license; Public Trust clearance eligible; GPA on resume.

  • Develop and execute MATLAB/Simulink simulations for communication performance, latency, and reliability
  • Use scenario tools like RoadRunner to design and validate testing environments
  • Collaborate on requirements gathering and data solutions with cross-functional teams
  • Support tech transfer: schedule engagements, draft agendas, facilitate discussions
  • Assist in research phases, lab upkeep, hardware/software configuration for traffic and vehicle systems
  • Conduct data collection, parsing, analysis, database operations
  • Test simulations, automated vehicles, infrastructure, and radios; develop open-source systems
