Leidos' Non-Kinetic Effects Business Area seeks a Research Scientist for the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command – Chemical Biological Center (DEVCOM CBC) at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland. Drive innovation in basic and applied research, development, testing, and evaluation to ensure U.S. Warfighters maintain dominance during chemical and biological events.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Analyze chemical materials and develop/characterize novel polymers and thermoplastics.
  • Test and evaluate materials against traditional chemical warfare agents, non-traditional agents, toxic industrial chemicals (TICs), and toxic industrial materials (TIMs).
  • Model material performance and conduct rigorous evaluations.
  • Collaborate under DEVCOM CBC Principal Investigators, chemists, and engineers.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's in Chemistry, Physics, Material Science, Engineering, or equivalent with 5+ years experience; or advanced degree with 2+ years.
  • U.S. Citizen with ability to obtain/maintain DoD Secret Clearance (potential Top Secret).
  • Proven R&D in polymers/thermoplastics; expertise in melt spinning, melt rheology, DSC, ASTM mechanical testing, SEM.
  • Experience in filtration technologies, N95/HEPA particulate capture.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Organic synthesis proficiency, CFD modeling for vapors/particulates.
  • CAD knowledge and multilayer thermoplastics expertise.
