Join Leidos as a Security Engineer in Lorton, VA

Leidos Digital Modernization Sector seeks a skilled Security Engineer for our Lorton, VA office supporting the Homeland Enterprise Information Technology Secure Services & Support (HEITS) Program for the Department of Homeland Security. Deliver cybersecurity and information assurance in a high-impact federal mission.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Administer and harden Linux servers (RHEL, Rocky, Ubuntu) including OS configuration, patching, and security baseline enforcement.
  • Install, configure, and maintain Tenable platforms (Tenable.sc, Nessus, Agents) for continuous vulnerability scanning.
  • Develop scanning policies, schedules, and dashboards for security posture visibility.
  • Analyze scan results, validate true/false positives, and drive remediation with teams.
  • Map findings to NIST 800-53, DISA STIGs, CIS benchmarks, and policies.
  • Support secure baselines, hardening guides, and compliance reporting.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure/DevOps on security integration in pipelines.
  • Participate in incident response, log review, and forensics for Linux hosts.
  • Maintain BOE documentation, SOPs, and track remediation progress.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in Cybersecurity/IT/Computer Science + 8+ years (or equivalent experience).
  • 5–8+ years Linux administration/security in enterprise settings.
  • Active TS/SCI clearance.
  • Tenable.sc/Nessus expertise in configuration and reporting.
  • Vulnerability lifecycle knowledge; NIST/STIGs/CIS experience.
  • Linux CLI, scripting (Bash/Python/Ansible).
  • SIEM integration and risk communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Configuration tools like Ansible, Puppet, Chef, Salt.
  • Zero-trust network designs and secure architectures.

Salary range: $107,900 - $195,050 USD annually. Leidos offers competitive benefits and career growth in defense IT.
