Senior Communications Manager, Homeland Security

Leidos, a leader in national security and technology solutions, seeks a seasoned Senior Communications Manager to drive all communications and marketing for our Homeland Security business area. Reporting to the VP, Homeland Communications Director, you'll elevate Leidos' visibility with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, TSA, CBP, and key partners. This hands-on individual contributor role demands strategic prowess across earned, owned, and paid channels in a high-stakes environment.

Primary Responsibilities

  • External & Strategic Communications: Craft press releases, op-eds, social posts, and campaigns showcasing thought leadership in national security and critical infrastructure.
  • Media & Executive Support: Build reporter relationships, manage inquiries, draft speeches, talking points, and internal updates for leadership alignment.
  • Internal Engagement & Events: Administer intranet pages, support trade shows, town halls, and drive employee awareness of priorities.
  • Crisis & Measurement: Counsel on issues, coordinate responses, and deliver metrics to optimize impact.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in Communications/PR/Journalism/Marketing + 12+ years in government/tech comms.
  • Mastery of writing/editing complex topics into compelling narratives.
  • Executive advisory experience, project management, MS Office proficiency.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in aviation security, border protection, or critical infrastructure.
  • Established media relations in national security trades.

  • Domain expertise in national security, critical infrastructure, aviation security, or border protection (preferred) (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Develop high-impact external content including press releases, op-eds, social media, and website copy
  • Design and execute integrated communications/marketing campaigns across earned, owned, paid channels
  • Cultivate media relationships, pitch stories, manage inquiries for trade reporters
  • Partner with leadership on speeches, talking points, presentations, and internal employee engagement
  • Provide issues/crisis communications counsel, event support, and performance measurement/reporting
