Job Description

Join Leidos Quantum Incubator as a Senior Quantum Scientist

The Leidos Quantum Incubator seeks thought leaders in quantum technologies, focusing on quantum optics, sensing, and communications—not quantum computing. Advance our portfolio through contract wins, internal R&D, benchmarking, and prototypes. Participate in the full R&D lifecycle for optical systems in quantum-enabled remote sensing and communications. Ideal for those passionate about applied research, experimental hardware, and maturing concepts to prototypes.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Design, build, test, and analyze quantum experiments across platforms for quantum communication, sensing, and precision PNT.
  • Perform lab/field tests to validate theories, prove viability, and benchmark results.
  • Write proposals, publish in peer-reviewed journals, present at conferences, and brief stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to leverage quantum tech for organizational goals.
  • Support business development to expand Arlington Branch’s quantum projects.

Basic Qualifications

  • T4: Bachelor’s in physics/applied physics/engineering + 8+ years experience (or equivalent).
  • T5: Bachelor’s + 12+ years experience (or equivalent).
  • Expertise in quantum optics, entanglement, photonics, communications, information science, or sensing.
  • Proven innovation from diverse research sources.
  • Prototype building/benchmarking with metrics and analytical skills.
  • Strong proposal writing; US citizenship for clearance; adaptable learner; programming proficiency; communication to all audiences; motivation to publish/present.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in relevant field.
  • Extensive quantum sensing/comms research.
  • ML/autonomy operationalization.
  • Data processing, aerospace, payload/satellite knowledge.
  • Winning independent funding.
  • Lab automation/electronics.
  • Big data/science/analytics experience.
  • DoD Top Secret clearance.

At Leidos, we outthink, outbuild, and outpace. Multiple openings at T4/T5 levels. Pay Range: $107,900 - $195,050 USD/year. US Citizens only.

  • Collaborate with engineers and scientists across teams and fields
