Join Leidos as a Senior Substation Project Engineer in Chicago

Leidos Engineering seeks a Senior Substation Project Engineer in the Chicago area to support substation projects for electric utilities in the Central and Midwestern US. Part of our Power Delivery Solutions (PDS) division, you'll work with lead engineers and account managers on transmission, substation, and distribution designs nationwide. This role offers remote capabilities but requires local/regional travel (~15%) to client sites—candidates must reside in or near greater Chicago.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead physical electrical design (arrangements, plans, grounding, raceway, shielding, lighting) at HV/EHV levels.
  • Design protection/control systems (relaying, schematics, SCADA, automation, security).
  • Perform studies/calculations (bus spans, shielding, conduit fill, loading).
  • Apply standards (NEC, NESC, IEEE/ANSI), create specs, and lead QC reviews.
  • Provide oversight, resolve issues, act as client POC, prepare proposals/schedules, and conduct site visits.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering + 8+ years substation experience.
  • PE License.
  • Expertise in utility grid, standards, and QA/QC advocacy.
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and research solutions.

  • Demonstrated advocacy of Quality Assurance and Control (experience)

Responsibilities
