Join Leidos as a Senior Transmission Line Engineer

Leidos is seeking a Senior Transmission Line Engineer to join our dynamic PowerDelivery team in a fast-paced environment tackling challenging electric transmission problems. Work on high-voltage (HV) and extra high-voltage (EHV) overhead and underground systems for major U.S. utilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and engineer transmission lines using NESC, ASCE, ACI standards for voltage conversion, new capacity, and infrastructure projects.
  • Conduct engineering analyses, prepare bidding documents, plans, specifications, material procurement, and construction packages.
  • Review full designs including PLS-CADD models, foundations, materials, plan & profiles, and construction packages.
  • Develop project scopes, budgets, and proposals while interfacing with clients, planning, environmental, permitting, and construction teams.
  • Lead and supervise teams, communicate effectively, and work independently or collaboratively.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering + 4+ years transmission design experience.
  • Expertise in PLS-CADD, POLE, LPile/FAD Tools, Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of NESC, ACI, AISC, ASCE; construction specs, procurement, schedules.
  • Proven leadership and client communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PE/FE/EIT license, GO95 experience.
  • PLS TOWER, MicroStation, ProjectWise, Mathcad, AutoCAD.
  • Construction management support.

Location & Work Style

Hybrid in Greater Chicagoland; fully remote from Greater Indianapolis/Columbus areas. Occasional client office visits or travel possible.

  • EIT, FE, or PE License (preferred) (experience)
  • GO95 (preferred) (experience)
  • Construction Management experience (preferred) (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Engineer on HV and EHV overhead/underground transmission line design projects
  • Apply NESC, ASCE, ACI standards to engineering and design
  • Perform engineering analyses for voltage conversion, new capacity, infrastructure replacement projects
  • Prepare bidding documents, draft plans/specifications, material procurement, construction documents
  • Develop project scopes, budgets, proposals
  • Work with multi-person teams, interface with clients, project planning, environmental, permitting, construction management
  • Communicate effectively with clients and project teams
  • Work independently or in teams, potential client office work or travel
