Join Leidos as a Senior Unix Engineer in Washington, DC

Leidos Digital Modernization Sector seeks a Senior Unix Engineer to deliver expert systems engineering, administration, and operational support for Unix/Linux environments at the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) office. This hybrid role (1-2 days onsite) demands Linux mastery to maintain, harden, troubleshoot, and optimize RedHat-based systems across multiple domains in a high-stakes federal setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain Linux servers (RedHat focus).
  • Oversee performance monitoring, backups, and advanced troubleshooting.
  • Secure systems via CIS baselines, timely patching, and updates.
  • Collaborate cross-team on environment setups and issue resolution.
  • Deploy and support third-party applications.
  • Resolve hardware, software, networking incidents rapidly.
  • Execute routine upgrades, patching, and compliance audits.
  • Handle escalated support and critical outage responses.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of configs and procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in CS/IS or related + 8-12 years exp. (Master’s +6-10 years; exp. may substitute).
  • Expertise in Red Hat Satellite, Bash/Python scripting, Git.
  • Strong networking (TCP/IP, DNS, VPN), virtualization (VMware/Hyper-V).
  • DoD IAT Level 2 cert (Security+ CE, etc.); Public Trust eligible.
  • Proven independent project delivery, problem-solving, communication.

Preferred Qualifications

  • RHCE, LPIC-2, CompTIA Linux+.
