Leidos Defense Sector delivers cutting-edge systems for land, sea, air, space, and cyberspace. Our Space Business Area pioneers advanced sensor products for proliferated constellations, integrating new technologies for space-based tracking. Join our newly formed Engineering team as Sensor Engineering Manager in San Diego, CA, leading cross-functional experts in Optical, Electro-Optical, Opto-Mechanical, and Image/Data Processing to deliver high-quality, manufacturable sensor designs.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Deliver strategic and technical leadership for space-based sensor programs.
  • Drive innovation and improvements aligned with customer missions.
  • Enforce 'design for manufacturing' principles throughout development.
  • Guide architecture, requirements derivation, and design integration.
  • Mentor diverse engineers across the full product lifecycle.
  • Partner with Space BA Solution Architect and Emerging Systems teams.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's + 12-15 years, Master's + 10-13 years, or Doctorate in relevant field.
  • 5+ years leading teams/projects.
  • US Citizen eligible for DoD Secret Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Space-based IR sensor and image processing experience.
  • DoD program execution, contracts, financials, subcontractor management.
  • Proficiency in Zemax, SolidWorks, MATLAB; CodeV a plus.
  • Reading mechanical/electrical drawings and manufacturing docs.
  • Building strategies with design, manufacturing, and tech teams.
