Join Leidos as a Substation Structural Engineer

Leidos seeks a skilled Substation Civil Structural Engineer for our dynamic EPC Solutions team. Work remotely across the US, collaborating with electric utility disciplines on high-voltage substation and transmission projects. As part of our Power Delivery Solutions division, deliver comprehensive engineering design and project management to public and investor-owned utilities nationwide.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct design reviews for civil/structural elements in substation and transmission bid packages.
  • Mentor junior staff, contribute to proposals, and serve as responsible engineer for quality control.
  • Perform site visits, client meetings, and support procurement of structural materials.
  • Ensure compliance with scope, schedule, budget, and safety standards.

Required Qualifications

  • BS in Civil/Structural Engineering (4+ years) or MS (3+ years).
  • Expertise in substation structures, rigid bus, foundations, retaining walls, and firewalls.
  • Proficiency in STAAD.Pro, RISA-3D, SAFE, MATHCAD, AutoCAD, and MicroStation.
  • Strong analytical and technical writing skills; up to 15% travel.
  • PE license preferred for senior candidates.

  • Substation and transmission project experience strongly preferred (experience)
  • PE Licensure highly preferred for 5+ years experience (experience)
  • Willingness to travel up to 15% (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Perform design reviews of civil/structural components for substation and transmission bid/construction packages
  • Serve as senior engineer developing junior staff and contributing to bids/proposals
  • Act as responsible engineer overseeing work and ensuring quality control on design packages
  • Conduct occasional site visits to client substations and travel for meetings/events
  • Support procurement for long lead structural materials
  • Comply with quality control, safety, scope, schedule, and budget expectations
