Join Leidos' Defense Systems Program Integration team in Huntsville, AL, and drive mission-critical safety solutions for land, sea, air, space, and cyberspace applications. Our matrixed organization empowers independent engineers to balance 1-3 programs simultaneously, from physics-based modeling to hardware development, across classified and unclassified efforts.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Conduct system safety analyses per MIL-STD-882E, including hazard tracking (PHA, FHA, SHA, SSHA, O&SHA, EHA, HHA, FTA, FMEA).
  • Derive tasks from customer requirements and contracts, working autonomously with technical oversight available.
  • Collaborate in diverse team environments, communicating complex safety concepts to non-experts.
  • Support transitions between programs, leveraging skills in systems engineering, human factors, risk management, and reliability.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in relevant engineering field (ABET-accredited) +6 years or MS +4 years.
  • MIL-STD-882E familiarity; requirements derivation experience for complex systems.
  • Secret clearance; collaborative communication skills; Huntsville-area residency or relocation willingness.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS in Safety/System Engineering; 2-4+ years direct system safety experience.
  • Knowledge of AR 385-10/16, AR 770-3, AMCOM 385-17; Army Safety Board processes.
  • Proficiency in safety tools, databases, and model-based systems engineering.

  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-882E application to system safety programs (experience)
  • Experience deriving requirements for electrical, electro-mechanical, mechanical, and software systems (experience)
  • Proven ability to work independently in matrixed, multi-program environments (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Perform system safety analysis tasks per MIL-STD-882E and customer requirements across 1-3 simultaneous efforts
  • Autonomously define tasking from customer needs and contractual documents for physics-based modeling, simulation, and hardware development
  • Conduct hazard analyses including PHA, FHA, SHA, SSHA, O&SHA, EHA, HHA, FTA, and FMEA
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams in classified and unclassified environments
  • Communicate safety approaches to non-expert stakeholders and provide technical oversight as needed
  • Support matrixed programs in systems engineering, human factors, risk management, and reliability analysis
