Systems Engineer SME - Make an Impact at Leidos

Leidos is seeking a Systems Engineer SME to join our Intel Security Sector's Analysis Solutions Business Area in Bethesda, MD. Our team leads in Security Engineering, Computer Network Operations (CNO), Mission Software, SIGINT, and Cryptographic Key Management. Drive national security missions with cutting-edge IT infrastructure expertise.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary technical authority for Linux-based infrastructure, providing expert guidance on architecture, configuration, and optimization across enterprise environments.
  • Lead root cause analysis and resolution of complex OS, kernel, and performance issues.
  • Handle installation, configuration, administration, support, and maintenance of systems, including hardware and cloud resources.
  • Design, implement, and maintain high-availability Linux systems (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu) supporting mission-critical applications with 99.99% uptime.
  • Maintain enterprise Linux server infrastructure for proper configuration, availability, performance, capacity, and maintenance, including patches and upgrades.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate Linux systems with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and hybrid infrastructure.
  • Develop and enforce system hardening standards aligned with DISA STIGs, CIS benchmarks, and organizational security policies.
  • Monitor technology obsolescence, manage upgrades, and evaluate alternatives across on-premises and cloud IT infrastructures, both virtual and physical.

Basic Qualifications

  • Must be a US citizen with an active TS/SCI with polygraph.
  • Master's degree with 15+ years of prior relevant experience (additional experience may substitute for degree).
  • Expertise in Active Directory, Windows servers, and virtualization technologies.
  • Ability to provide on-call support.

Systems Engineers monitor operations, evaluate metrics for IT infrastructure KPIs and SLAs, perform risk assessments, mitigation analysis, vendor trade studies, and ensure continuity of operations including disaster recovery.
