Join Leidos as a Traveling Security Control Assessor (Journeyman)

Leidos seeks experienced Security Control Assessors for high-impact DoD cybersecurity missions. This journeyman role demands 85% travel to government sites nationwide and internationally, with per diem covering all expenses. Base near Alexandria, VA; Fort Meade, MD; or Chambersburg, PA for training and meetings. Work remotely otherwise. Max starting salary: $85,000. Requires Top Secret clearance and IAT/IAM II certification.

Intensive Onboarding

Begin with 4-6 weeks virtual classroom training: modules, lectures, exams. Shadow pros on DC-Baltimore 'check rides' for hands-on mastery before full travel rotation.

Core Mission Responsibilities

  • Lead assessments/audits for DoD info systems and DoDIN-connected partners.
  • Execute threat emulation, performance testing on Defensive Cyberspace Operations.
  • Run vulnerability scans (STIG Viewer, Nessus, ACAS); report via eMASS.
  • Validate RMF/NIST controls; recommend mitigations; support authorization decisions.
  • Mentor juniors, brief stakeholders daily.

Basic Qualifications

  • DoD TS/SCI eligible; 8570 IAM/IAT II cert.
  • BS IT +5yrs cyber (3yrs A&A) or equivalent experience.
  • STIG/SRG/POA&M expertise; RMF/NIST fluency across tech domains.
  • Elite communication for findings reports.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct cybersecurity assessments, audits, and inspections for DoD organizations
  • Evaluate systems using cyber threat emulation and performance-based testing
  • Perform vulnerability assessments and document in eMASS/STIG Viewer
  • Analyze security gaps and provide mitigation recommendations
  • Validate controls, TTPs, STIGs, RMF compliance; provide risk analysis
  • Coordinate logistics, test plans with SCA Team Lead
  • Participate in daily reviews, in-briefs, out-briefs; mentor team members
