The Machine Operator I in the Press Department at Mohawk Industries in Garner, North Carolina, plays a vital role in our packaging operations. This full-time position ensures uninterrupted production of high-quality flooring products by operating specialized equipment. You'll work in a dynamic manufacturing environment, handling Lachenmeier systems, outfeed equipment, and related machinery to meet documented standards. In this role, you'll ensure compliance with all company safety rules while monitoring and setting up Lachenmeier and associated outfeed equipment. Responsibilities include troubleshooting technical issues, completing first pallet quality checks on new orders, and loading materials like stretch hooder film, divider sheets, rolls, tier sheets, and protection sheets. You'll perform preventive maintenance (PM) duties, notify line operators and shift leaders of quality or production issues, and send detailed end-of-shift reports. Collaboration with purchasing and distribution teams resolves material shortages and ensures smooth pallet pickups, preventing line stoppages. Housekeeping, standard operating procedures adherence, and attending job-related training round out daily tasks.
To succeed as a Machine Operator I, candidates need a High School diploma or equivalent, plus at least 1 year of forklift driving experience, 1 year with automated machines, and 1 year in manufacturing. Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills are essential. Physically, the role demands lifting up to 50 lbs., walking, bending, squatting, and climbing ladders and stairs. Expect a 12-hour shift schedule with fixed rotation, including holidays, in an environment with machinery noise, dust, and variable temperatures. PPE such as eye protection, hearing protection, safety shoes, and high-visibility clothing is required.
